Before joining Green Circle Solutions, Alex spent the past 14 years working as a web designer and developer. Over that time, he has delivered a wide range of projects - from large-scale e-commerce solutions and custom CRM systems to productivity applications designed to slot directly into business workflows. He has built websites for various sectors including the creative and music industries, which has always been close to home from his earlier days as a musician. Music is still a huge part of his life, and while he is no longer performing, you will often find him at live shows and always on the lookout for new artists and sounds to explore.

1. Tell us about you and your role at GCS?
I’m the Lead Web Developer at Green Circle Solutions, responsible for shaping the technical direction of our platform. My role is a mix of hands-on coding, architectural planning, and working closely with the wider team to make sure our product scales smoothly as adoption grows. Day to day, that means everything from ensuring our infrastructure is stable and secure, to building new features that help customers calculate, analyse, and reduce their environmental impact.

2. What excites you most about leading the development of our product?
For me, it’s the impact. We’re not just building another carbon emissions reporting tool - we’re giving businesses the ability to understand their carbon footprint and ESG data in a clear, actionable way. That feels meaningful. From a tech perspective, I love the challenge of building something flexible and scalable that works for both a small company taking its first steps, and large organisations with complex data needs. Seeing that come together - and knowing it can help drive real change - is what excites me.

3. What are some of the key technical features that make our product stand out?
We’ve designed the system to be both powerful and simple. Some of the key features include:

  • Ease of Use – the interface is designed to be intuitive, so customers don’t need to be technical experts to get real insights.
  • Scalability – the platform supports both quick one-off calculator creation and larger scale calculator management for organisations who require it, without needing a rebuild.
  • Data Security by Design – everything is built with encryption, access controls, and monitoring baked in, so customers can trust their information is protected.
  • Development of APIs – a key goal on the roadmap is to allow customers to integrate their own systems directly, as we work with several customers who have niche tools for things such as product build etc. This is all for the future, but we’re excited to start tackling this core challenge.

4. How do you ensure the platform is secure, GDPR-compliant, and reliable for our customers?
Security and compliance aren’t add-ons for us - they’re embedded at every stage of development. We follow GDPR best practices around data minimisation - only holding what is necessary, encryption, and transparency with respect to how an individual’s data is used. Regular security maintenance and penetration testing ensure any vulnerabilities are caught early and addressed swiftly. We also have strong uptime and backup strategies in place, so our customers know they can rely on the platform day in, day out.

5. What improvements or innovations are you most proud of that make the system easy for customers to use and integrate into their business?
I’m particularly proud of the flexibility we’ve built in. Many platforms either lock customers into rigid workflows or require heavy custom development to adapt. With GCS, companies can start using it quickly, then expand and customise as their needs grow. Features like the customisable calculators for niche sectors, intuitive dashboards, and automated data handling all reduce the “friction” that normally comes with new systems. The result is faster onboarding, less training, and real insights much sooner.

6. What about the future?
Looking ahead, I see us moving further into automation and predictive insights. That means more intelligent integrations with existing business systems, better use of artificial intelligence (AI) to help customers spot trends or risks earlier, and tools that don’t just report on data but actively guide companies toward better sustainability decisions. Ultimately, the goal is to make sustainability reporting not just seamless and actionable, but something businesses actively rely on to drive decisions - as natural as financial reporting is today.
